Customs: Extension of the Convention on a common transit procedure and the Convention on the simplification of formalities in trade of goods
By their decisions No 1/2012 and No 2/2012 the EU-EFTA Joint Committees on a common transit procedure and on the simplification of formalities in trade of goods invited Croatia and Turkey to accede to the Convention of 20 May 1987 on a common transit procedure and to the Convention of 20 May 1987 on the simplification of formalities in trade of goods.
See the Official Journal L 114, 26-4-2012 on pages 29 to 35.
Croatia has deposited its instrument of accession on 30 May 2012 and will therefore join the conventions on 1 July 2012. This means that common transit operations between the existing contracting parties (the EU and EFTA countries) and Croatia can begin from this date. This extension will bring major simplifications for economic operators engaged in trade between the contracting parties and Croatia.
Turkey has decided to postpone the lodging of its instrument of accession due to technical reasons and intends to join the conventions as soon as possible later in 2012. A further announcement will be published in due course.
